No gym, no problem ☀️ My resistance bands are definitely making into my suitcase this summer. Luckily, all you need is a resistance band to take fitness on-the-go and keep things hassle-free-no gym required. I have used this full body workout everywhere from the studio to the beach. “Sometimes it is hard to go, especially when you don’t want to leave. But when you do leave, leave it well...on purpose, with purpose” Johanna Hynes. Johanna said this ( might not be an exact quote) during one of her yoga classes this week and it just stuck with me. We focus so much on the arriving and preparing for things and don’t always place as much emphasis and focus on the ending/leaving which can be just as significant. I just loved this and realize I don’t always think about how I leave things. In a following class that Johanna taught she was describing being in a yoga pose and said “you are here, but how you are here is up to you, you can modify at anytime”. As I leave the @thevineyardretreatmv this year I leave on purpose ( with so much gratitude for the time spent with new and old friends) and with the purpose that how I am “here” is up to me and I can modify at anytime. Thankful happy lighter for this past week 🙏🌟. #thevineyardretreatmv #marthasvineyard #johannahynesyoga #yoga #barre #meditation #barreretreat #yogaretreat #asanacharlestown #sundayvibes
Yes just yes! To this beautiful place and to this beautiful space to teach in and to this whole band of amazing characters that made up the first session of the Vineyard Retreat. Feeling so honored to teach at the Vineyard Arts Project and so grateful for this entire experience. One of my big takeaways this week came from our meditation teacher, Fez Aswat, and he said “Mindfulness is the awareness of being able to pay attention to what you are paying attention to”. A really important reminder to take notice of where we focus our energy and thoughts 💙. #vineyardartsproject #marthasvineyard #mindfulness #meditation #yoga #barre #retreat #island #getaway

Never let the things you want make you forget the things you have 👌🏻. This is always an important reminder for me because I struggle a lot with being caught up in my head focusing on what’s next, what else can I do, I’m not doing enough, I need more time, I should have more of this job/life/success/stuff etc...etc.. etc. The list always seems to go on and on. I seriously have to check myself to make sure I stay present and in awareness of the amazing things I have in my life to be grateful for. When I forget to do this ...I get shifted and stuck back into those feelings of lack and not enough. My son and daughter always talk about wanting to go back to the place in Arizona “Where Time Stands Still”. Those were the words on the sign outside the hotel we stayed at. I really tried to get a great photo and have the sun & shadows lined up just right to take a perfect picture of the sign ...didn’t quite get it. But- I agree with my kids so much in that we all need to spend a moment in places (or in memories) where we feel content and places where we want “time to stand still” and just be grateful. I use this now ( go in my mind to a place I wish time stood still) as tool to get into more of a mindfulness of appreciation. #tbt #thursday #takemeback #wheretimestandsstill #scottsdale #arizona #desert #familytime

And what a great moment it is when that happens :
Our brain tracks and interprets much of what we are experiencing at an unconscious level. This is why certain reactions or behaviors seem automatically to just come out of the blue. These are often based on conditioned emotional responses also know as emotional triggers. We understand that healing deep core wounds and triggers can not be done solely through the conscious mind. We need to work through our bodies, especially the nervous system + limbic system(emotional brain) to uninstall old programs from the operating system.
We are taught to avoid uncomfortable feelings instead of feeling them. We don’t process them and they accumulate. Finding healthy ways to express our feelings without reacting negatively or lashing out is the path of emotional intelligence. I’ve been asked to go deeper into talking about the work of healing emotional triggers and this month I’m excited to be back with the amazing @erintelford__ as our guest for a class series on Emotional Intelligence(link in bio) .
For my online school and/or people intending to take the class i want to you prepare ahead by doing a journaling exercise related to emotional triggers.
- identity situations that create an exaggerated emotional trigger
- identify the precise reaction
- ask, what situation from my past triggered the same emotional response to this situation
- examine what is real in the present moment
Some common emotional triggers as examples...
Anyone in authority
Love being expressed
Asking for help
Being cut off
There is no need to feel ashamed of triggers. They require compassionate self inquiry. We will be using this trigger list to see where you want to create an alternative conditioned emotional response. Instead of one that signals that you are in danger, one that reinforces safety. You can read a ton of self help books and never actually have your life change. That’s because reading utilizes the conscious mind. In order to change your life you have to reprogram on a deeper level
If you are like me and looking for a way to help: “When scary things happened on the news, Mister Rogers’ mother would say: “Look for the helpers, son. There are always helpers.” .
In the future, when history looks for the helpers of these times, History will find you. .
History will point to this army of fierce hearted strangers who linked arms and marched toward the world’s pain–who sacrificed for forgotten little ones they will never meet because there is no such thing as other people’s children. .
Our goal yesterday was to raise $240,000 for emergency response and long-term legal accountability for the child detention crisis.
You showed up. You posted, tagged, raged, cried. You stopped your day and the world for these children.
18,468 of you gave.
In 24 hours, you have raised $1,195,245 .
We’ve been on calls all night and morning–meticulously strategizing the most effective way to deploy every penny we receive from you to fund more emergency care and long-term help to more children than we ever imagined we’d be able to.
Holly Cooper’s warrior legal team will receive more than they or we ever thought possible--this money will get them to centers to inspect and investigate abuse, interview the children, remove them to protect their health and safety, and build legal cases to demand these atrocities end.
As we’ve shared the news with the tired, relentless warriors on the ground, their hope is renewed. They’d begun to worry that America had forgotten about these children, that saving them would be impossible. Then: YOU -- the people of the impossible -- showed up.
There’ve been many incredulous tears. We keep hearing: Tell them thank you. Please tell them thank you. .
Each penny represents your work, love, and hope. We will put every single penny you’ve entrusted to us to its highest and best use. As always, as soon as it is responsible to do so, we will give you a full report of how each dollar is used. .
We will continue. The darker times get, the more light we will bring. We will not abandon each other. We will make it through like we always have: We’ll do the next right thing, one thing at a time, together. “ #togetherrising #donate
